The research groups of Shie Mannor, Yoash Levron and Kfir Levy from the Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Technion—Israel Institute of Technology, offer a postdoctoral position in the field of machine learning, focusing on applications in power systems and renewable energy systems.
Machine learning classifiers often provide “black box” solutions, since it is not always known why or how a classifier reached a certain decision. For this reason, in sensitive applications, such as those related to the energy industry, experts may find it hard to trust the recommendations made by machine learning based algorithms, which severely limits their usefulness. Due to this challenge, in the last couple of years new techniques and principles are being developed to improve the explainability of machine learning models. This field of research is known in the literature as Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). The objective of the proposed project is to investigate possible applications of XAI in power systems and renewable energy systems.
We expect candidates to have
• a PhD in engineering, mathematics or computer science,
• a strong background in machine learning,
• good programming skills.
To apply, please send an Email to Yoash Levron: yoashl@ee.technion.ac.il
