The Automation and Sensorics in Networked Systems (ASN) group at the University of Kassel is looking for a motivated PhD candidate to join the new DFG-funded research project "Hierarchical Control of Multiscale Systems for the Case of Resilient Future Electrical Power Systems".
Within this project, methods for the modeling, analysis, and control of large-scale, physically coupled systems with nonlinear dynamics and multiple time scales will be investigated. The objective is to develop hierarchical control approaches that consistently account for interactions between different time scales and subsystems, thereby ensuring stable and resilient operation under varying conditions and disturbances. As a motivating application, the project focuses on future power systems with a high share of renewable energy sources, characterized by reduced inertia and increased uncertainty.
Your background:
- Master’s/diploma degree in electrical engineering, control, cybernetics, applied mathematics, or a related field
- Strong background in automatic control, especially in optimization-based, hierarchical, and distributed control approaches
- Enthusiasm for both theoretical and hands-on research
We offer:
- Full-time position (E13 TV-H, > 58k€/year)
- Duration: 36 months, starting in early 2026
- Opportunity to pursue a PhD in a supportive and collaborative research environment
