Associate Professor, Dr. Liangming CHEN is currently looking to recruit PhD students and postdocs to join his research group at SUSTech (in Shenzhen, China). The application deadline for the PhD position is around 5th, Feb, 2025. The interested candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Chen as earlier as possible.
Introduction about SUSTech: Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is a public and dynamic university in China. SUSTech has very rapidly been recognised as a world-class university. In the Times Higher Education 2022 survey, it ranked among the Top Ten universities in mainland China. It had the highest citation score in China and was among the top three in the international outlook. It was ranked 162nd among the universities in the world. It was also ranked 19th in Asia and 13th in the Young University Rankings in 2022. It is located in the rapidly growing tech capital city of Shenzhen.
Introduction about the supervisor: Dr. Chen joined SUSTech in 2022, where he is currently an Associate Professor in Systems and Control. Before joining SUSTech, he was a postdoctoral research fellow under the supervision of Prof Lihua Xie (Fellow of Academy of Engineering Singapore, IEEE Fellow) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is an associate editor in IET-The Journal of Engineering, and conferences ECC 2024, ECC2025, ICARCV 2022, and chair in a session of CDC2023. His previous research was supported by a number of research funds such as National Natural Science Foundation of China for excellent young researchers. He and his collaborators developed the angle rigidity graph theory and applied it to multi-agent formation control and distributed localization. As the first author, his research works were published in many top journals, including IEEE TAC, Automatica, IEEE TRO, IEEE TCST, and IEEE TSP, etc. He was authorized by 4 national patents. His research group in SUSTech focuses on both theoretical and engineering topics mainly in multi-agent systems, cooperative localization, formation control, and spiking neural networks (SNN). His research group aims at high-impact research results. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and an associate editor of EUCA editorial board.
Requirements: The students must have a strong background in control theory (applied mathematics, nonlinear control theory, estimation and localization, or multi-agent systems, etc), or robotics (UAVs, robots' localization, formation control, swarm, etc) or artificial intelligence (SNN, etc), ideally demonstrated through: (i) at least one relevant and high-impact publication and (ii) completion of at least 3 graduate level courses in these fields. The students should have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related programs.
Interested potential candidates can e-mail Dr. CHEN at chenlm6@sustech.edu.cn, and attach their CV and transcripts as pdf files. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
