The Control Systems & Robotics (CSR) group within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has a history of 60 years, going back to the founder of the group (previously the Control Systems Centre) Professor Howard H. Rosenbrock FRS. The Control Systems & Robotics group is programme lead for two highly successful MSc degrees, the MSc in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering, and the newly introduced MSc in Robotics. The strongest graduates from these MSc programmes often go on to reading for PhD degrees with us. The MSc in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering had its 50th anniversary ceremony in 2019.
In recent years, the CSR group has made significant contributions to feedback control theory in areas such as: robust control theory, e.g. negative imaginary systems theory, absolute stability theory, multi-agent / distributed systems theory, adaptive control theory, and nonlinear control theory. Theoretical control research within the CSR group has been providing strong fundamental support to high-profile advanced applications in areas such as robot control, and power/energy systems control. We seek to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to further develop new capacity in this foundational research area.

We are seeking outstanding applicants with an established record in feedback control theory. You will lead a vibrant research programme with a particular focus on feedback control theory. Your control theory research may, potentially, also be motivated by advanced control applications, which must be complementary to existing control applications in the CSR group, to underpin research which is fundable by national, e.g. UKRI, or international funders, e.g. Horizon. You will contribute to both the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, namely the group’s own MSc in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering and relevant Undergraduate (UG) programmes of the department.
