Dear Colleagues,
We hope this email finds you well.
The open-access journal Machines (ISSN 2075-1702, IF 2.6) is pleased to announce that we have launched a new Special Issue entitled "Advanced Control and Path Planning of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)". I am serving as Guest Editor for this issue.
Given the depth of your expertise in this field, I would like to cordially invite you to contribute a manuscript to the Special Issue. For more information, please visit the Special Issue website at: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/machines/special_issues/7ZS283VVX8
Papers may be submitted from now until 15 August 2024 as papers will be published on an ongoing basis if accepted for publication following peer review. Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are also encouraged to send a short abstract or tentative title to the Editorial Office in advance (camille.wang@mdpi.com).
Machines is fully open access. Manuscripts are peer-reviewed and a first decision is provided to authors approximately 15 days after submission. An article processing charge (APC) of 2400 CHF currently applies to all papers accepted after peer review. You may be entitled to a discount code if you previously reviewed for MDPI or if your institution is a participating member in MDPI’s Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP). Anyway, special discounts up to 100% of the fee can be requested via email to the organizers.
I hope that this invitation receives your favorable consideration and I look forward to our future collaboration.
Kind regards,
Giuseppe Silano, on the behalf of the organizers

Purpose and Goal
The special issue on "Advancements and Challenges in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)" aims to address the rapidly evolving landscape of UAV technology and the associated challenges in ensuring safe and optimal operation. UAVs have become vital tools in various sectors, including precision agriculture, package delivery, monitoring, search and rescue operations, and high or confined space inspections.
The primary goal of this special issue is to gather recent developments in UAV technology and foster knowledge exchange among researchers in relevant fields. We seek to explore diverse aspects of UAV research, including aircraft control, path planning, trajectory optimization, target tracking, and more.
Through this special issue, we aim to promote and showcase innovative approaches that enhance the accuracy and performance of UAVs, emphasizing the significance of high-quality sensors and advanced control technology. Original research articles and reviews are invited to provide valuable resources for researchers, contributing to the advancement of UAV technology and its applications.
We eagerly anticipate receiving contributions from esteemed colleagues, as we collaborate to address the challenges and opportunities in this dynamic field of UAV research.
