About Us
The Chair for Mathematical Systems Theory is part of the Department of Mathematics in Stuttgart with its innovative and internationally renowned research in several important and modern areas and its excellent research- and application-driven teaching. Furthermore, we are closely cooperating with the Cluster of Excellence SimTech.
You will be a member of Professor Carsten Scherer’s team and have sufficient freedom for your research in the area of mathematical systems theory or control engineering.
One possible direction is the currently thriving topic of viewing optimization algorithms as dynamical systems. In this framework, an algorithm is a controller and techniques from control theory permit to design optimal algorithms for solving convex optimization problems.
Your tasks
Conducting research in Mathematical Systems Theory
Teaching assistance of three hours per week (during the semester)
Collaboration with project partners and publication of research results
Active participation in SimTech events
Commitment for the working group and the institute
Your Profile
You are a motivated person with very good degrees in mathematics or natural sciences and with a genuine interest in optimization and systems theory.
You have a thorough knowledge of topics in mathematical optimization. A solid background in control theory or modern robust control is highly desirable.
You enjoy working with undergraduate students and are willing to take on teaching responsibilities.
You are motivated to work in an interdisciplinary project team.
We search for an open-minded person with good communication skills.
Proficiency in English is required and knowledge of German is highly desirable and necessary, due to teaching obligations at the Department of Mathematics.
