Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is a public and dynamic university established in 2012 by the provincial government of Guangdong and the Shenzhen Municipality with the aim of developing a new type of tertiary education and becoming a world-class research university. About the supervisor and the opportunity
Dr. He Kong joined SUSTech in early 2022, where he is currently an Associate Professor in Robotics and Automation. He received the Ph.D. degree (advised by Graham Goodwin and Maria Seron) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He was a Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics (advised by Salah Sukkarieh), the University of Sydney, Australia, during 2016-2021. His research interests include active multi-modal perception, robot audition, state estimation, and control applications. He is currently serving on the editorial board of IEEE Robotics & Automation Letters, IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine, the International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, and the Journal of Smart Agriculture (sponsored by the Agricultural Information Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences). He has also served as an Associate Editor for several international conferences in robotics and automation, including the IEEE ICRA (2023, 2024), IEEE/RSJ IROS 2023, the IEEE/SICE SII (2023, 2024), IEEE RO-MAN 2023.

Applicants of the PhD scholar position must be non-Chinese citizens and are expected to
(i) Have a Master’s degree with a strong academic background in engineering disciplines, including but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, etc;
(ii) Have outstanding English language skills (IELTS 6.5 or above, with each band score above 6; or equivalently TOFEL 90);
