Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD position in Automatic Control at Mälardalen University (MDU), Sweden.
This Ph.D. student position is an integral part of the “TRIM: TRustworthy Interaction of Multi-agent systems” project that is part of the Trusted Smart Systems (TSS) initiative at MDU. The successful candidate will become a valued member of the Complex Real-Time Embedded Systems (CORE) research group. Our group carries out interdisciplinary research at the intersection of cybersecurity, control theory, machine learning, and embedded systems. Our overarching vision is to spearhead the development of methodologies that enable the design of intelligent, autonomous decision-making systems that possess unwavering security and resilience against both malicious adversaries and natural adversities.
Eligibility / Selection Criteria:
Required:
- Hold a Master of Science (second cycle) degree or equivalent, in a field that is relevant to the topic of the project at the time of enrollment as PhD student.
- Have good communication skills with sufficient proficiency in oral and written English, as well as excellent study results.
- Have appropriate personal characteristics, such as a high level of creativity, thoroughness, and/or a structured approach to problem-solving.
Additional qualifications include (i) proficiency in programming (preferably in MATLAB or Python), and (ii) knowledge of control theory or applied mathematics with a focus on linear algebra, statistics, and optimization.
Merits
Experience and courses in one or more of the following subjects are considered as merit:
- control theory, linear systems, nonlinear control, optimal control, robust control, system identification, model predictive control,
- artificial intelligence, machine learning, multi-agent systems,
- optimization, distributed optimization
- cyber-security
