The International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems (IMPRS-IS) is an interdisciplinary PhD program jointly offered by the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems and the Universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen. The graduate program is a pillar of the Cyber Valley initiative, one of the most thriving academic, research, and industrial environments for research on artificial intelligence and advanced robotics in Europe.
The lead faculty members in the area of control theory are Professors Frank Allgöwer and Andrea Iannelli from the Institute for Systems Theory and Automatic Control (IST), University of Stuttgart. The IST has gained in the last 25 years a world-wide reputation for its research outcome and vibrance of the academic environment, featuring collaborations and visits to several labs around the world, seminar series with internationally known speakers, and many networking events throughout the year.
The research at the IST is centered around methodological approaches to address fundamental open questions at the intersection of systems theory, optimization, and learning, and topics of current interest include (but but are not limited to)
- Data driven Control
- Learning-based Model Predictive Control
- Online Learning for Dynamical Systems
- Statistical Learning Theory for Control Systems
The IST has open fully funded positions (level E13 TV-L 100%- starting from a gross salary of approximately 4200€) for theoretically-driven and highly motivated students that would like to do their PhD in the broad research areas mentioned above. You can apply at https://imprs.is.mpg.de/application before 11:59 p.m. (23:59) CET on November 15, 2023. Finalists will be invited to selection interviews that will take place from February 1 to 9, 2024.
