We invite applications for a doctoral (or post-doctoral) researcher position in the field of Control Theory/Applied Mathematics, in Munich, Germany, the city of the Oktoberfest.
The successful candidate is expected to advance the state of the art of the numerical approximation of reachable sets of continuous-time linear, and possibly nonlinear, control systems.
Depending on background and interests of the candidate, the research focus will be either on mathematical foundations, or on algorithms and implementation.
Required qualifications:
- MSc degree (or equivalent, giving access to doctoral studies) in Mathematics, Systems and Control, Computer Science, or a related field. Students about to complete their MSc will also be considered.
- Strong theoretical or mathematical background, and a strong interest in dynamical or control systems.
- Programming proficiency (C or Mathematica).
- Efficient communication skills in English.
Experience in one of the following fields would be a plus but is not necessarily required:
Reachability analysis; quadrature theory; mathematical foundations of semi-definite programming; set-valued or validated numerics; validated floating-point arithmetic; information-based complexity / optimal recovery.
The position is full-time and paid according to pay scale ``TVOeD Bund, E 13''. Actual income depends on marital status and professional experience, and starts from EUR 36000 net p.a.
(E-14, from EUR 38500, for applicants with a PhD degree). Reimbursement for travel expenses to conferences. No teaching load. The position is available immediately and for an initial duration of 18 months, with possible extension contingent on research performance.
