We are seeking highly motivated PhD students to develop data-driven modeling, control, and communication algorithms for marine robotics applications. The selected candidates will join a multi-disciplinary team of researchers at Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA USA) and will have the opportunity to pursue research and development within a range of topics related to marine robotics modeling, parameter estimation, control theory, machine learning, and communication networks.
Roles and responsibilities:
• Conduct research to identify solutions for modeling and control of distributed maritime operations
• Design algorithmic tools for modeling and control of distributed marine operations
• Design and perform experiments and data collection techniques.
• Review and evaluate results of the simulations, experiments, and/or tests.
• Write or assist in preparing monthly reports and presentations for the research group and/or the funding agency.
• Maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant, state-of-the-art methods and technology
• Work closely with research engineers, industrial partners, and collaborators
Required Qualifications:
• US citizen or Green Card holder
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or closed-related fields.
• Minimum undergraduate GPA 3.5
Required Skills:
• Python, C++, MATLAB, Simulink, and Word/PowerPoint/Excel
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Knowledge of linear algebra, control theory, probability, and statistics
• Comfortable working independently
