Postdoctoral Fellowship, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto
Description: Two full-time postdoctoral fellowships are available at the University of Toronto in the area of power system operations, optimization and dynamics for bulk grids with inverter-based resources. Topics of specific focus will include grid performance under extreme climate-changed related contingencies, and the dynamic restoration of inverter-based grids. The positions are under the supervision of Prof. Tate and Prof. Simpson-Porco, with significant collaboration between the roles expected, as well as extensive collaboration with our utility partner. Responsibilities will include: principled development of analysis methodologies, extensive validation of approaches on realistic power system models, writing of progress reports and research publications, development of software packages, interfacing with utility partners, and the mentorship of junior team members.
Qualifications: The ideal team member will be a self-motivated learner, with strong mathematical and analytical skills, and experience with large-scale power system simulation. Applicants must
• hold a Ph.D. degree in power system optimization, dynamics, control, or a closely related topic (e.g., operations research, industrial engineering, etc.)
• have a strong track-record of academic publication in high-quality venues
• have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Starting Date: Both positions are available immediately. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Applicants with pre-existing eligibility to work in Canada, including Citizens, Permanent Residents, and those with open work permits and Post-Graduation Work Permits will be strongly prioritized.
Term and Salary: Both positions are for a 1-year term, with renewal for a second 1-year term subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Each salary is approximately $63,000 per year, plus benefits.
How to Apply: E-mail your academic CV, a cover letter, two references we can contact, and two representative academic publications to jwsimpson@ece.utoronto.ca, cc’ing zeb.tate@utoronto.ca.
