About the „Energy Innovation Centre“ (Energie-Innovationszentrum - EIZ):
As part of the energy transition, the German government has set itself ambitious goals, which will require a fundamental transformation of our energy systems in order to be achieved. Given its historical position as a centre for lignite mining and power generation, Lusatia faces particularly complex challenges to readapt itself. The Energy Innovation Centre (Energie-Innovationszentrum - EIZ) at the BTU addresses this challenge on both a global and regional level, by accompanying the global transformation of the energy sector and thereby (co-)building and (co-)securing regional technological leadership for science and industry, as well as the start-up competence of Lusatia. The focus is on the systematic networking of the various energy systems and sectors, as well as the diverse system actors and the direct support of innovation and start-up activities in Lusatia.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is funding the EIZ in a first phase with around €25.5 million over a period of four years. At the same time, novel laboratory infrastructures worth a further €18.5 million are to be funded by the Investitions- und Landesbank (ILB). Over a period of ten years, the further development of the EIZ into a powerful and innovative network is to be financed with a total of €96 million.
Your tasks
Conduct scientific work in the area of control and operation of sector-coupled energy systems in the EIZ sub-project "Control Systems and Cyber Security Lab (COSYS Lab)" with a focus on the development of data-driven control methods for climate-neutral energy systems. In particular, you will research intelligent control methods that dynamically adjust the electricity consumption of end customers from commerce and industry based on price signals. The behavior of such end-users is difficult to represent accurately using conventional models. Therefore, modern methods for data-driven control are to be developed and applied. Here, the system behavior is to be learned from real end customer data without requiring an explicit model of the controlled system.
Together with our project partners from science and industry you will work on the research project. Furthermore, you will handle research-related administrative tasks. You will also actively participate in current control and energy technology discussions and developments by publishing in scientific journals and presenting your research results at international conferences.
Your skills
- You have successfully graduated from a university (accredited Master's degree/university diploma or equivalent) in a field relevant to the job (electrical engineering, energy technology, applied mathematics, engineering cybernetics, physical engineering or comparable).
- Desire for academic and personal development, especially for doctorate.
- Ability to work scientifically, independence, flexibility, teamwork and communication skills.
