A Research and Teaching Assistant in Advanced Control with applications in Future Smart Grids position is available in Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France.
Key words: advanced robust control, model-based control, H-infinity, LMI formalism, robustness (parametric/neglected dynamics) power systems, smart grids, renewable energy
Context: Ecole Centrale Nantes (ECN) is fully involved in developing advanced analysis and control methods with application in Renewable Energies technologies such offshore and onshore wind, wave and solar. Several important projects funded by the European Commission are run in this field:
Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree DREAM - European Master in Dynamics of Renewables-based Power Systems https://master-dream.ec-nantes.fr/
H2020 RIA POSYTYF project https://posytyf-h2020.eu/
ECN-RTE (the French TSO) research and teaching chair chairerte.ec-nantes.fr/
Approaches developed concern robust control (H-infinity, fuzzy, predictive, LMI based, …) and applications must face challenges of smart grids of the future: stability issues dues to massive integration of power electronics and renewables, control of new grid reinforcements (HVDC lines/grids), new renewable energies and their integration to the grid and ancillary services, etc.
Tasks:
The recruited person will:
- integrate open and in perspective thematics of the aforementioned research projects, specifically: model-based robust control with hard constraints on both controls and states, distributed control, predictive control applied to renewable generators
- ensure a limited teaching duty (96 hours/year) in Erasmus DREAM master on the aforementioned thematics
Competences needed:
The candidate should have strong background and experience in advanced model-based robust automatic control and a minimal experience in (at least one) application of such controls in power systems. French is not mandatory; English is (teaching is in English)
Schedule:
Recruitement: asap
Duration : 12 months with possibility of 4 years extension
Work will take place in ECN, Nantes-France.
