Special Issue on System Identification and Estimation
The topic of system identification has been a vivid and resilient research area in the control community over many years. It is relevant to ask why the interest in system identification has remained so intense. One answer might be that more and more applications in engineering require mathematical models and the combined use of system identification and physical modeling is the basic way to obtain reliable models. This special issue is focusing on the latest development, trends, and novel methods for system identification and these contributions will give interesting and inspiring insights into the current status of the area.
The issue is dedicated to major aspects of experimental modelling, system identification, adaptive control and signal processing, including topics such as:
- Identification of nonlinear, linear, multivariable, time-varying, distributed systems and hybrid systems
- Identifiability
- Linear and nonlinear time series analysis
- Black-box modeling (support vector machines, neural networks and Kriging...)
- State estimation and parameter tracking
- Estimation from spatio-temporal data
- Sequential Monte Carlo methods, including particle filtering
- Robustness issues in identification
- Parameter estimation and inverse modeling
- Learning, data mining and Bayesian approaches
- Identification for control, adaptive control and data-based controller tuning
- Modeling and identification of quantized systems
- Experiment design
- Statistical analysis and uncertainty characterization
- Monitoring and fault detection
- Model validation
- Teaching identification
- Applications (transportation, physical measurements, aerospace, telecommunications, process control, automotive, robotics, motion control, modal analysis and structural health monitoring, econometrics, ecosystems, bioengineering and medical systems, information networks, energy...)
