Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is a public and dynamic university established in 2012 by the provincial government of Guangdong and the Shenzhen Municipality with the aim of developing a new type of tertiary education and becoming a world-class research university. It is located in the rapidly-growing tech capital city of Shenzhen. In recent years, SUSTech has very rapidly been recognised as a world-class university.
The Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering at SUSTech was founded in 2016. Since its inception, the department has been making efforts to gather talents at home and abroad to form its research and teaching teams. Currently, the department is home to over 40 full-time faculty members. Our current research focus includes robotics and automation, intelligent manufacturing, and energy engineering.
Dr. He Kong joined SUSTech in early 2022, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He was a Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, the University of Sydney, Australia, during 2016-2021. His current research interests include active perception, robot audition, optimization-based estimation/control, and machine learning applications, amongst others. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Smart Agriculture (published in both Chinese and English), sponsored by the Agricultural Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He has also served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (IEEE RA-L), the 40th IEEE ICRA 2023, the 15th IEEE/SICE Int. Symposium on System Integrations (SII 2023).
Dr Kong is recruiting 2 postdoctoral (flexible start date) and 1 PhD (2023 Fall enrolment) scholars in Robotics and Automation both domestically and internationally.
Applicants of the postdoctoral scholar position will either expect to finish their doctoral studies soon or have already obtained the PhD degree. In this position, candidates are expected to work in the general areas of robotics and intelligent systems, with a focus on active perception, robot audition, and advanced state/parameter estimation methods. Applicants with expertise and interests in robotic perception, control systems, optimization, machine learning, and their applications, are encouraged to apply. The position will be for 2 years, and the package will be about or above 330,000 Chinese Yuan (inclusive of employer-paid pension, insurance, etc).
Applicants of the PhD scholar position must be non-Chinese citizens, and are expected to
