Description
We are seeking 2+ postdoc researchers to join the control team for the project “CyPhAI: Formal Analysis and Design of AI-intensive Cyber-Physical Systems” funded by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). This project aims at establishing mathematically-solid methodologies to model, verify, test, monitor, and control cyber-physical systems in which AI plays a crucial role (AI-CPS). The project is led by PI, Kohei Suenaga (Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan), and the control team is led by co-PI, Masako Kishida (National Institute of Informatics (NII), Tokyo, Japan [https://www.nii.ac.jp/en/]).

The expected research topic in the control team includes (but is not limited to) the following: (1) applications of machine learning for designing controllers and (2) control methods for machine-learned components.

Postdoc researchers will pursue her/his research agenda in line with the project’s goal.

The annual gross salary is determined according to the rules of NII based on your qualifications and some insurances are covered according to the rules of NII.

The application deadline is February 28, 2023 and the starting date is negotiable. The contract will initially run until the end of March 2024, with the possibility of annual renewal at maximum until March 2026.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (or near completion) in mathematics, engineering, or computer science
  • Expertise in one of the following areas: control theory with rigorous mathematics, learning based control, symbolic control, hybrid systems
  • Strong communication skills in oral and written English
  • Highly (self-)motivated, dedicated, open-minded, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
