The Calhoun Discovery Program (CDP) at the Virginia Tech Honors College (http://www.honorscollege.vt.edu) in partnership with the Virginia Tech’s Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS https://ictas.vt.edu/), is announcing an opening for a Collegiate Assistant Professor position in Automation for Sociotechnical Systems.
The position is focused on novel educational approaches that can facilitate the development of automation related skills for students within a sociotechnical systems context. The appointee will be expected to take a lead role in the following collaborative activities:
•Development of educational modules on topics related to automation for non-engineering majors, and advanced educational modules on automation for all majors that will be integrally related to the applied work the students are doing.
•Creating an applied automation curriculum that is modular, adaptive, and accessible by all majors involved in socio-technical systems.
•Development and delivery of automation components of undergraduate research projects with the industry and non-profit partners of the program for honors students from all disciplines participating in the CDP.
•Collaborative research in adaptive and collaborative pedagogy in socio-technical systems with other CDP faculty and VT colleagues as well as industry and non-profit partners.
This is a Collegiate Faculty position (non-tenure, long term renewable contracts with promotion path) at the rank of assistant professor. The appointee will be expected to mentor highly motivated honors students, to contribute to the overall development of CDP and ICTAS, to participate in college- and university-level service, committee work, and other duties as assigned, and to pursue a program of personal research in areas related to the position description. The appointee in this position will hold an affiliate status with a related department in the College of Engineering
