There are two PhD studentships arising in the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University, UK. They will be working on increasing the level of autonomous for aerial and ground vehicles with particular focus on safety when operating in adverse weather or traffic conditions. The PhD studentships are affiliated with the UK EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) Established Career Fellowship in recognition of Prof Wen-Hua Chen’s outstanding contribution to this field.
The scope of these PhD studentships is quite flexible including perception, decision making and active learning, and the successful candidates will have an opportunity to define the specific directions. The applications could be unmanned aerial vehicles, driverless cars, robotics and other autonomous systems. More information of the Department, the University and the PhD programme could be found at

Please notice that non-UK citizens are eligible to apply for these two studentships but the studentships only cover the tuition fee so the awarded candidates need to cover their own living cost for 3 years.
The 3-year studentships are intended to start on either 01 April 2022, 01 July 2022 or 01 October 2022. It provides a tax-free stipend of £15,609 a year (stipend will rise in line with the level set by the Research Council) for the duration of the studentship plus tuition fees at the UK rate. The deadline for one PhD studentship is 28th February, 2022.
