Postdoc position at Virginia Tech
A postdoctoral position is open in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg Virginia. The successful candidate should have a PhD degree (or close to finish) in system and control, optimization, applied mathematics, reinforcement learning, or related fields, with theoretical background and interests in control theory, optimization, reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems, and robotics.
Research description: The candidate will conduct theoretical and algorithmic development on control theory, optimization, and reinforcement learning over multi-agent systems while taking real-world constraints into account. Multi-agent systems are finding applications in a wide variety of domains including robotics, self-driving cars, the Internet of Things, transportation systems, and sensor networks. The research will develop novel data-driven decision-making frameworks with theoretical guarantees for solving challenging problems in multi-agent systems, building upon tools from optimization, dynamical systems, reinforcement learning, and distributed algorithms. The ultimate goal is to help the agents operate fully autonomous in unknown and time-varying environments under any practical considerations, with minimal or no human interactions.
Conditions of employment: The position is a one-year research appointment, renewable for one or two years, based upon annual performance. The researcher will receive a competitive salary in accordance with postdoctoral salaries at Virginia Tech.
Applications shall include the following documents:
- curriculum vitae;
- statement of motivation and research interests (up to two pages)
- all transcripts of obtained degrees (in English)
- names and contact information of up to three references
- up to 3 research-oriented documents (e.g. thesis, conference/journal publication).
Applications or inquiries should be emailed to Prof. Thinh T. Doan (thinhdoan@vt.edu).
The call for applications will remain open until filled. While the starting date is flexible, an early start is preferred.
