PhD position in Fast Modelling of Li-ion Batteries for Advanced Battery Management Systems
A PhD fund is available at VITO Battery Systems Research Center, in collaboration with Forschungzentrum Julich, to develop advanced BMS for Lithium-ion batteries. Li-ion batteries are used in wider applications, including battery assembly packs that contain large number of cells connected in series and/or parallel. Such battery packs require complex Battery Management Systems (BMS) to secure their safe and reliable operation. An advanced physics-based BMS is capable to accurately capture the dynamics of the Li-ion battery at various charging/discharging cycles. Existing solutions, such as Finite Element Models (FEM), are subjected to a high computational burden that make them unsuitable for practical BMS applications. This PhD research will contribute towards a fast electrochemical modelling of Li-ion batteries to be used in battery packs with sophisticated BMS.
This PhD research will be benefited by the battery test facilities at both VITO and Forschungszentrum Julich. You will be part of VITO, an organization with international reputation, known for its advanced technological research and scientific consultancy in the domain of battery systems.
Requirements: You hold a Master degree in Engineering Science or a related field. You have strong analytical skills with good programming skills in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, Julia and C(++). You are fluent in English, both oral and written.
